Before putting on lipstick, it helps to scrub your lips with a good quality lip scrub. If you don’t want to buy one, you can always use castor sugar mixed with olive oil as a home remedy. Scrubbing your lips rids them of dead, dry skin and leaves them smooth for applying lipstick.
Your lips are most likely going to feel a little raw after the scrubbing and a good moisturizer will not only soothe but also soften the skin on your lips. It is best to let the moisturizer stay for about 30 mins before you put on the lipstick. However, don’t forget to dab off the excess before you start with the colouring!
Putting a little bit of liquid foundation or concealer on your lips before putting on the lipstick is a great trick to get a colour closest to the palette. The foundation will also provide a great base for the lipstick to stick on to.
4. Line your lips
Use a lip liner to outline your lips clearly so that the lipstick does not bleed onto your skin. Make the out line nice and thick and smudge it inwards with a tip brush to avoid overly sharp outlines. If you don’t want the extra colour, you can even use a nude lip liner that will serve the purpose without showing at all !
5. Use matte
For a long lasting look, it is always better to choose matte over gloss. Applying two thin coats and dabbing off excess after each gives the best results.
